We are delighted to announce the arrival of Darcie Cornish to the SR2 family. As a start-up business we are still less than 6 months in operation and hiring wasn’t part of the plan this early but due to a flying start we felt the time was right to grow the team. Darcie becomes the fifth member of the SR2 team and is someone we have been excited about from the minute we first met her at interview.
Darcie is going to be recruiting into London specialising in PHP, we know she is going to be an absolute star.
Darcie grew up loving dancing and her the inspiration for her name came from Darcie Bussle the ballerina so she tried to follow that path. She loved singing too (although definitely not good at it!)
She loves to travel and went to Australia for 6 months and worked in a bar in Melbourne, then travelled around South East Asia varying from places like Singapore to Bali for a year, she loved the idea of being able to chill out and try new food whilst meeting new people and experiencing different things. She has always loved meeting new people and challenging herself so a career in recruitment seemed to fit the bill. She wasn’t aware that she’d love it as much as she does and being able to work in an environment where every day is different is an added bonus.
Why did you join SR2?
I wanted to be a part of something different and forward thinking. Recruitment is tough, so why not work for company that wants to have fun doing it and that cares about charity and its employees. The industry is forever evolving so why not move with it and be socially responsible!
Who is your role model?
Without sounding super cliche, my mum. She works so hard and doesn’t give up if things get tough and she does it with a smile on her face.
What are your plans and ambitions for Women Rock?
To work closely with women, listen to their stories, their challenges and successes and support them as much as possible. No one in this area is doing something similar to Women Rock so I think we have a fantastic platform in order to empower women. I’m super excited for the day when hopefully I’m able to conduct my own interviews and write my own blog entry.
Being a ‘woman in tech’ albeit in a slightly different way, what do you think the challenges are for women in the industry?
The gender pay gap is a concern, I can imagine in such a male dominated industry for women to have to demand what they deserve is difficult although I will be working on this with our partners Gapsquare.
What do you love to eat and drink? This is very important to us at SR2
It has to be the classic avocado on toast with LOADS of tabasco or anything spicy really. I’m a fully fledged coffee addict but I’d have to say a nice elderflower gin and tonic is my favourite beverage!
Where is your favourite place in the world?
Anywhere scolding hot! But the best place I’ve been has to be a small island in Cambodia called Koh Rong. It was very untouched and had white sands that went on for miles. If you get the chance to go please do!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love going to the gym, it’s probably my main hobby! I also listen to a lot of true crime podcasts on my way to work or on car journeys (I’m a crime geek). If online shopping qualifies as a hobby then that is definitely one. I absolutely love eating out too – any excuse to go to a fun restaurant!
And from me to you….
“The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” It’s pretty simple, there isn’t a way around things but to just do it. This relates to anything in life; you are your own obstacle.
